About the community
Registered with the Original Kindness Rocks project, the group has one straightforward objective: TO ENCOURAGE RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE NOT EXPECTING THEM, whether you paint and leave inspirational rocks or share rocks you have discovered.
This is a small group with a fresh beginning. The group is not in competition; the group is simply bringing the group’s own character to an idea that already exists.

The file tab provides fuller details about everything required to reach your goals, together with our 10 simple rules.
- GET SOME ROCKS. Smooth, flat rocks between 1″ and 5″ work best. I never advise removing rocks from waterways: this contributes to erosion, and those rocks are public property belonging to everyone. Free rocks are wonderful, but take them carefully, consider the planet, and never steal rocks from a business.
- PREPARE THEM. Spray or paint the rocks with a spray/paint available from craft or hardware stores. Modge Podge works very well to ready the surface for writing or artwork.
- CREATE THE ART. Use acrylic paint. Add #BKR (Berks Kindness Rocks) to the back of every rock you leave, allowing others to find and join the group, share their photos, and perhaps follow your rock’s travels.
- APPLY CLEAR SEALANT. This protects the artwork from weather and keeps the paint from affecting the environment. Options include brush-on Modge Podge outdoor sealant, Krylon Spray, or another outdoor product. Test first and work carefully so the design does not smear.
Leave rocks OUTDOORS. We aim to share kindness while promoting respect and consideration for other people. NEVER leave anything in National or State Parks governed by an LNT (Leave No Trace) visitor policy. Always respect the environment and business premises.
The purpose is fun and the spread of kindness. If you disagree with anything stated here, you are free not to participate. Administrators will remove anything they consider unkind or unrelated to rocks.
