About the community
New members are asked to read the group’s introduction and rules.
The group was founded to introduce coloured-stone hunts to the Longwy area, inspired by an activity already popular on the Belgian side.
Participants collect stones or pebbles to paint at home, with children or on their own. On a later walk, they leave them in different places and post photographs of the locations in the group as clues.
Walkers who find these creations photograph them to report the discovery, then move them and provide new clues. This allows the stones to travel while children enjoy treasure hunts, combining creative activity at home with time in nature.
The group sets out the following rules to keep the activity running smoothly and posts easy to follow:
- Clue photographs belong in the album for the relevant town or village. Members may create an album if the location is not yet listed.
- Adding # followed by the town or village name to photographs is suggested as a way to track stones. If subsequent finders use the same method, a search should help retrace a stone’s journey.
- Civility and politeness are required.
- Posts unrelated to the stones are rejected and deleted immediately.
- The group discourages stickers, googly eyes and small glued-on decorations: heat, rain and movement can detach them, leaving additional material in nature.
- Members may post a photograph of a missing stone to ask whether anyone has seen it. However, moderation automatically removes complaints that accuse other people, children or group members of a disappearance. Some finders do not know the activity and take stones home; others know it through the media but do not use Facebook and cannot report their movements. The group respects individual choices and prioritises enjoyment and bringing pleasure to others.
The group presents stone hunts as an opportunity for enjoyable outings and encounters.
