The rocks are created and placed on Terschelling to bring people joy. Finders are encouraged to post a photograph or message on the page. They may keep the rock or let it travel farther, on the island or mainland.

Participants can decorate a rock found in nature or bought at a DIY store, adding Happy Stones Terschelling and the Facebook logo. This makes it possible for their creation to appear on the page after it is found.

New and existing members are asked to read the announcement dated 10 January before joining and revisit it occasionally, as it contains the group rules.
