Have you ever considered joining a ROCK group? Northern Beaches Secret Rocks brings people together through encouraging messages, rock art, or a combination of both. We hope each rock touches its finder in a special way, perhaps through love, hope, gratitude or another positive feeling.
If you encounter one of our special rocks, you may choose any of these ideas—or invent your own. In the rock world, an unwritten rule says your first find may always be kept if you wish.
- Allow the message to affect you, then leave the rock where it is.
- Pick it up and move it somewhere else.
- Keep it.
- Give it to a person who may benefit from its message.
- Share a photograph and message using #NBSR, letting other members and possibly the artist enjoy your discovery too. Rock painters love hearing the story of a find.
Hide every rock outdoors. Add #NBSR on FB to its underside or side so the finder reaches our Facebook group, learns about Northern Beaches Secret Rocks, and sees the photographs and stories showing how hiding and finding rocks can unite our community.
Use weather-resistant materials. Posca pens are easy and work beautifully on rocks, while any acrylic paint is also suitable. Sealing a finished rock makes it last longer; Jo Sonja Clear Varnish, clear nail polish and Mod Podge all work.
Take a picture, post it in our Facebook group and tell your story for everyone to enjoy.
No advertising is allowed. Children take part in this positive, uplifting community activity, so paintings must not be inappropriate and comments must not be negative.
