About the community
Welcome to Overland Park Painted Rocks in Overland Park, Kansas. Perhaps you have already heard of painting and hiding “kindness rocks”; if not, welcome to what may become your favourite new hobby.
Paint a rock however you like, commonly with an uplifting phrase or cute image. On the back, write something such as: “Post a pic on FB @OverlandParkPaintedRocks! Keep and paint a new rock to hide or re-hide for someone else!” If space is limited, include at least @ Overland Park Painted Rocks! FB Group. The finder can then locate this group, read these details and learn how to participate in the Kindness Rocks Project.
Do not paint over another person’s design. Children in our community are proud of their creations and enjoy learning that their original artwork brought someone happiness. Unpainted stones are available from local garden centres and home-improvement centres, or from your own back garden. Glitter, gems and other decorations may be attached here, because there is no evidence that their use specifically on painted rocks harms local wildlife.
After painting, hide your rocks anywhere—not only Overland Park. Seeing how far one travels is part of the fun. Possible locations include parks, libraries, restaurants, shopping centres, community centres, mailboxes and playgrounds. At businesses, hide rocks outside unless the owner permits indoor placement.
When you discover a rock, take a photograph, post it here, and comment where you found it. Enjoy painting, and let us spread kindness around us! #KindnessRocksProject
