About the community
This group was founded to create a powerful movement: bringing communities together, encouraging everyone to get outside and move, offering a way to express oneself freely, and spreading happiness. Rock hiding is effectively a huge outdoor treasure hunt enjoyed by all ages.
How the rock game works
- Paint a rock.
- Mark its back with “painting rocks!”, say whether it is to be kept or hidden again so finders do not feel they are stealing it, and include the Facebook logo to show where it should be posted.
- Hide the rock. Popular places include parking areas, benches, parks, outside business establishments, walking trails, trees and libraries. Do not use national parks or monuments.
- Share pictures and clues to the location on the page.
- When a member finds a rock, examine it for words and search that label on Facebook to locate the group it came from—some travel amazing distances. Post a photograph of the rock and specify where it was found.
The purpose of these “kindness” rocks is to encourage other people through simple acts of kindness. Take on the mission of making someone’s day.
