Walkers on the GR®65, keep your eyes open along the Way: look for the “Galets de St Jacques” and take part in the chain of sharing and exchange launched for the 2022 Jacobean Year. Finding a painted rock means that you are on the right path.
From 1 June to 25 July 2022, rocks painted by local residents in the colours of the GR®65 and the region are left as “offerings” along the Via Podiensis, from Le Puy-en-Velay to Livinhac-le-Haut. They accompany the pilgrimage and the walkers’ journey.
The “Galets de St Jacques” create a chain of exchanges between the “Accueillants”, residents of the villages crossed by the Way, and the “Accueillis”, walkers on the Way of St James. This initiative by the Association Sur les Pas de St Jacques arose from a collective artistic project carried out in spring 2022. Bearing the intentions of the Accueillants, the rocks join the pilgrimage: everyone hopes to move them onwards to St James in a multicultural movement, celebrating the spirit of pilgrimage and the passing of the baton.
When you discover one, photograph it, take it with you and accompany it for a few kilometres. Then leave it again at the place along the Way that inspires you, so another pilgrim can find it.
Join the Facebook group Trouve mon Galet St Jacques to identify the creator and record the distance travelled: post a photograph of the discovery and the new location. When you leave the rock on the Way again, create a clue post, like a new riddle offered to those following behind you.
From their creation to their progress towards Compostela, the “Galets de St Jacques” community comes together and exchanges both on the Way and on social media to celebrate the Jacobean Year. Join us!
