West Coast Painted Rocks encourages random acts of kindness by sharing small works of art.
Group rules
Our central purpose is to promote Random Acts of Kindness: members paint rocks and hide them for other people to discover.
Because the kindness is intended to be random, please avoid sharing exact hiding places or photographs that reveal them. We hope a rock will be an unexpected discovery that brightens somebody’s day. Pictures taken before rocks are hidden are always welcome, but a hiding photo must not “spoil” the precise location.
We love seeing beautiful artwork, yet the page exists first and foremost to spread joy by leaving art for others. Posts about work that somebody plans to sell will therefore be removed. Many pages focus on rock painting; this group focuses on giving those creations away. Once hidden, a rock becomes public property for its finder to keep or re-hide as they wish. Shaming anyone for their choice is not tolerated.
Keep posts centred on the rocks rather than on the rules.
Recent negative coverage has described painted rocks left outdoors as litter or environmentally harmful, so following the rules is especially important. In particular, do not glue anything to a rock that might detach and become rubbish, including googly eyes, stickers or jewels.
Business promotion and the sale of artwork for any reason are not allowed. At the administrator’s discretion, such posts will be removed immediately.
When hunting, do not greedily collect every rock you see. Take a few and leave others for more people to discover; you can also hide your finds again for somebody else.
Living on the West Coast is not a requirement for joining #WCPR.
Know and obey state and local laws both when collecting rocks to paint and when deciding where to place your art. We advise against putting creations inside a business unless its owner has granted permission.
Artwork represents the opinions and attitudes of its individual artist, not those of the admins, moderators, members or the group. We accept no responsibility if someone is offended—or for anything else, for that matter.
Blocking the admins or moderators will result in removal from the page. Posts that advertise or recruit members for new groups will be deleted unless an admin approved them in advance.
